Summer Camp 2018

It suddenly occurred to me that none of our instructor’s wrote a blog post about summer camp this year, we’re sorry for this.

The camp started like most others, an overnight stop at Mike’s house to ensure everything was ready for the next 5 days. The first major challenge was fitting all the instructor’s gear into my boot (To save our members money, we decided that we would drive down rather than hire a minibus, this meant all the kids, instructor’s, and kit, in two cars). After 4 tries, we had eventually done it, and off we went to pick up the Navigator’s.

What awaited us at Lincoln Grandstand was very excited Navigator’s, and even happier parents. The Navigator’s decided which cars they were travelling in, and apart from a quick stop at McDonalds to get me and Alex some breakfast, the trip was largely quiet. I’ve always thought my singing was spot on, especially when I’m in the car on my own, but there was a slightly embarrassing moment when firework came on by Katie Perry, and I started singing along, much to the amusement of the Navigator’s and Alex in my car.

When we arrived, the kids went off exploring, and we set about getting camp sorted. Mike and Tom went shopping, and the Navigator’s got to ride grass sledges down the hill. It was soon evening. We set up a good camp fire and kids shared stories of what had happened that day before going to sleep.

Sunday was the day the young people were really looking forward to, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. We went to the Nene White Water Rafting Centre, and the young people took part in tubing, and kayaking. Although the weather was bad, it didn’t dampen the spirits of the Navigator’s who were all soaking wet anyway

The zoo followed Monday which was enjoyed by all.

On the Tuesday, the Navigator’s did some survival skills and had a karaoke session around the campfire in the evening.

Wednesday was tidy up day, and as I drove into the Grandstand at 2pm on Wednesday, two feelings came over me. The first of sheer delight, of getting my bed back, but second, I wish I was still soaking wet, on that inflatable tube.
